2024 Cardinals roster preview: DL Phil Hoskins

We will preview every player on the Cardinals’ roster heading into training camp. This is about defensive lineman Phil Hoskins.

The Arizona Cardinals will open training camp July 23 and begin the process of preparing for the regular season, forming the roster and determining starting jobs and roles on the team.

Leading up to the start of camp, we will take a look at every player on the offseason roster, their background, their contract, their play in 2023, questions they face and their roster outlook.

Next up is defensive lineman Phil Hoskins.

Background

Hoskins entered the NFL from Kentucky as a seventh-round pick by the Panthers in 2021. He played for the Panthers that season and in 2022, but was on the practice squad at the end of the year. He was signed by the Chiefs in the 2023 offseason, but was waived in the cutdown to 53 players and was signed to the Cardinals practice squad on Oct. 3. Hoskins was then signed to the active roster on Dec. 27.

2023 stats

He played five games with one start last season and participated in 124 defensive snaps plus three on special teams. Hoskins had eight tackles (two solo) in 2023.

2024 contract details, cap hit

His salary and cap charge are $1.055 million, the veteran minimum for players with three credited seasons.

Questions he faces

Hoskins got the opportunity he did last season because of numerous injuries on the Cardinals defensive line. The biggest question is the level he’ll be able to compete after the offseason addition of several players to the line.

2024 roster outlook

He enters training camp on the bubble, but is one of many in line for a spot on the practice squad.
