NASCAR to introduce two Goodyear tire choices at Richmond in 2024

NASCAR will introduce two Goodyear tire choices for the Cup Series race at Richmond in 2024. Find out the details behind the tire situation!

NASCAR has revealed an announcement that could change how short-track races are run with the NextGen car. On Tuesday morning, NASCAR announced that teams will have two Goodyear tire choices in the Cup Series race at Richmond Raceway on August 11. There will be “prime” and “option” tires for the race at Richmond in over three weeks.

Teams will be able to use the “option” tire three times throughout the weekend, with one used during practice and the other two used during the event. A prime set must be used during qualifying, leaving eight sticker tire options for the race. Six tires will be the prime set, while the other two are the option compounds.

NASCAR will not mandate when the tires should be used during the race at Richmond, leaving it up to the teams. The option tires didn’t last long during the testing at Iowa Speedway, so it will be interesting to see how it runs in the evening. This is a massive moment for NASCAR and might change the future of Goodyear tires as we know it.
