We begin a new week in the NFL offseason a day closer to the start of the 2024 NFL regular season. In 55 days, the Arizona Cardinals will take the field at Highmark Stadium in Week 1 to face the Buffalo Bills in their season opener.
The team’s current No. 55 is second-year defensive lineman Dante Stills, who has made enough of an impact to be the last No. 55 to do so.
Stills was drafted in the sixth round last year out of West Virginia and, because of injuries, ended up having a prominent role on defense.
He played in 15 games, starting eight of them, and had 47 tackles, 3.5 sacks, five tackles for loss, five quarterback hits and a fumble recovery. He injured his knee late in the season and missed the final game of the season. He was inactive in Week 1.
In all, he played 533 snaps on defense and another 68 on special teams.
Had Stills not already made enough of an impact, the No. 55 before him would have been the focus — Chandler Jones, the team’s all-time sack leader.
