NBA star and Commanders fan Kevin Durant is a huge fan of Jayden Daniels

Kevin Durant sees some of himself in Jayden Daniels.

Regarding celebrity fans of the Washington Commanders, you could argue that there are none bigger than NBA superstar Kevin Durant. Durant, who grew up in Prince George’s County, Maryland, has attended several Washington games and training camps over the years.

Durant was in Ashburn last summer for the first training camp for the new owner, Josh Harris.

There has been much excitement surrounding the franchise since Harris took over. That excitement has grown since January with the hiring of general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn. The duo has brought in several new players, but none more significant than rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Durant sees some of himself in the star rookie.

“I was a fan of the Heisman winner this past year,” Durant told Kay Adams on “Up & Adams” this week.

“It feels like…..he’s like the KD of college football last year with his body type. You watch him on TV; it’s easy to watch their team because of how he plays. So, hopefully, he brings that same type of enthusiasm to the game to Washington. Everyone is rallying around him, we feel like we got a player that can take us somewhere now.”

So, why did Durant compare himself to Daniels?

“I feel like he pops off the screen when you turn on the TV,” Durant continued. “A guy that size that can move that well at that position, you tend to look at that body frame as a wide receiver.”

Durant earned the nickname “The Slim Reaper” for his size and ability on the court. While Durant is 6-foot-11 and Daniels is only 6-foot-4, both have been criticized at times for their frame, which is why Durant called Daniels “the KD of college football.” It makes perfect sense.

Daniels begins his first NFL training camp on July 18. Unfortunately for Durant, it’s doubtful he’ll be around this summer as he is a part of the U.S. Olympic basketball team. The summer Olympics begins on July 26.
