Now we’re talking! This is what we and our friends at Fighting Irish Wire were hoping for! USC women’s basketball has joined Notre Dame women’s basketball in arranging a home-and-home series. The first end of the home-and-home set will be hosted by the Trojans in the Galen Center this November. We podcasted about this topic with Fighting Irish Wire early in the year, and now it’s reality. We mentioned Irish Wire editor Nick Shepkowski’s specific idea for the creation of a USC-Notre Dame basketball event:
Fighting Irish Wire editor Nick Shepkowski put forth the idea that when USC hosts Notre Dame in Los Angeles, the game could be accompanied by a USC-Notre Dame women’s basketball game on Thanksgiving weekend. It could be on Saturday, it could also be on Sunday. It could also be on Thanksgiving Friday or even on Thanksgiving Day itself. During a week when all USC and Notre Dame fans are revved up for the big football game, why not add women’s basketball to the mix? These two programs are going to be really good in the coming years. Why not take advantage of this moment? It’s a great idea from Fighting Irish Wire.
Close, Nick!
It turns out that USC-Notre Dame will be on Nov. 23, 2024, one week before the USC-Notre Dame football game on Nov. 30. Still, Fighting Irish Wire and Trojans Wire will take partial credit for speaking this idea into existence! We’re thrilled to see this happen, and we commend the coaches and administrators at the two schools for putting something together at a time when both basketball programs are legitimate Women’s Final Four contenders.
