Hubert Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels are starting to make four-star center Malachi Moreno a priority.
About a month after offering the talented center from Kentucky a scholarship, Davis was watching Moreno in the open evaluation period on Thursday. Moreno and his Indiana Elite team are playing in the Adidas 3SSB Palmetto Road Championships in Rock Hill, South Carolina and is drawing a large crowd of coaches.
In addition to Davis, Matt Painter, Mark Pope, Dusty May, Pat Kelsey, Micah Shrewsberry and Jake Diebler among others were also watching Moreno’s team this morning.
North Carolina has a need for a big man in future recruiting classes after Armando Bacot played his final season in 2024. They do have Jalen Washington and James Brown on the roster, but having enough bigs is key for Davis’ offense.
Hubert Davis, Jake Diebler, Pat Kelsey, Dusty May, Matt Painter, Mark Pope, Micah Shrewsberry, and dozens more assistant coaches are starting the morning off with Indiana Elite 17u featuring Malachi Moreno, Braylon Mullins, and Trent Sisley.#3SSB

The Tar Heels do have some tough competition for Moreno as well. The Kentucky Wildcats appear to be among the favorites to land him and Indiana is making a push for him as well.
The 6-foot-11, 230-pound Moreno is ranked No. 25 nationally, the No. 3 center, and the No. 1 player in the state of Kentucky per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.
