UNC baseball program adding former Liberty coach to staff

A former UNC baseball coach is joining the staff as an assistant per a report.

The North Carolina Tar Heels’ baseball program will welcome back a familiar face to the coaching staff this season.

Per Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball.com, Liberty coach Scott Jackson has resigned after eight seasons. He’s expected to return to North Carolina as an assistant on Scott Forbes’ staff starting next season.

Jackson previously served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at North Carolina from 2009-16. He left the program to take the Liberty head coaching job, his first time as a head coach.

Under Jackson, Liberty reached the NCAA Tournament three times out of eight years going 3-6. He finished his career with an overall record of 246–181 with Liberty.

Jackson now joins a UNC baseball staff is fresh off an appearance at the Colleg World Series. UNC won the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season title before winning the Chapel Hill regional and super regional.

They did finish 1-2 in Omaha, including losing to eventual national champion Tennessee after beating Virginia.
