Auburn football signed a deal with UCLA in 2017 for a home-and-home series beginning in the next decade. The deal consisted of a once-in-a-lifetime trip for Auburn to the Rose Bowl in 2027 and a return trip for UCLA in 2028.
However, as of Wednesday, the deal has officially been called off.
According to a report from AL.com, Auburn and UCLA have agreed to cancel their series for 2027 and 2028. This marks the second time a series involving UCLA and an SEC squad has been nixed. The Bruins were scheduled to face Georgia beginning next season at Rose Bowl Stadium with the 2026 matchup scheduled to take place Between the Hedges.
The reasoning behind the cancelation remains unknown, but the Bruins recent move to the Big Ten has put a major travel burdens on the athletic program. UCLA will visit Penn State, Rutgers, Nebraska, Indiana, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Northwestern over the next two seasons alone. Talks of the SEC moving to a nine-game conference schedule have become more prevalent, which could have also played a factor in the series being canceled.
In order to combat its travel woes, UCLA will now play Utah in place of Georgia and California in place of Auburn. Auburn is in its second-year of a home-and-home series with California. The Tigers and Golden Bears will conclude their deal on Sept. 7 at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
The next home-and-home series for Auburn begins next season with Baylor. Auburn will visit Waco in 2025, with the Bears returning to the Plains in 2026. Auburn is also scheduled to play a home-and-home series with Miami (FL) beginning in 2029 in Miami.
