North Carolina’s roster will look a little different going into the 2024-25 college basketball season. The program had some key departures with Armando Bacot, Cormac Ryan, and Paxson Wojcik running out of eligibility and Harrison Ingram being drafted.
But they do welcome in some transfers and a three-player 2024 recruiting class that will impact the future of the program.
One of those players in the 2024 recruiting class is five-star forward Drake Powell. The North Carolina native committed to North Carolina in September of 2022 and has seen his stock rise since then. And it’s going up even more.
Powell was one of the players who participated in the Jayson Tatum Elite Camp and was a standout performer during the 5-on-5 live-action portion:
Incoming UNC freshman, Drake Powell, was a top performer during 5v5 live action at the Tatum Elite Camp.

Powell should get the chance to make an impression early on in his career as UNC needs some help on the perimeter after losing Ingram and Ryan. While he’s showing his scoring ability, his defense is also getting praise as well.
If Powell keeps this up, he could find himself in the conversation as a lottery pick for the 2025 NBA draft. And a big first season in Chapel Hill would go a long ways to that as well.
