UNC basketball backcourt ranked among best in country

247Sports had high praise for the UNC basketball program’s backcourt.

A big reason why the UNC basketball program was able to win the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season title last year was due to the excellent play of their backcourt.

With RJ Davis leading the way and winning the ACC Player of the Year, UNC had one of the strongest backcourt in the country as he played alongside Elliot Cadeau. Seth Trimble served as a backup and provided key minutes for the Tar Heels as well.

Now, going into the 2024-25 season the Tar Heels’ backcourt is all returning and they are considered one of the best in college basketball again.

With the season still months away, 247Sports ranked all the backcourts in college basketball, and checking in at No. 2 were the Tar Heels:

ACC Player of the Year RJ Davis is back for a fifth season and will be among the favorites for National Player of the Year. The Tar Heels also returned former five-star Elliot Cadeau, and the staff expects big improvement from a freshman campaign that featured moments of brilliance. Hubert Davis and his staff coerced lockdown defender Seth Trimble out of the portal and back to Chapel Hill in one of the most underrated moments of the offseason. Five-star shooting guard Ian Jackson is ahead of schedule and has impressed onlookers with his elite scoring touch during UNC’s alumni games last month.

The only team ahead of North Carolina is Kansas as they welcome in transfers AJ Storr and Zeke Mayo.

There are a total of two ACC programs on the list with Duke checking in at No. 10 overall. Former UNC standout guard Caleb Love and the Arizona Wildcats are ranked No. 8.
