The vibes in Queens right now are absolutely out of control in the best possible way.
What began with Grimace throwing out the first pitch at Citi Field on June 12 for the lowly 28-37 New York Mets has snowballed as the team surged in the standings in the weeks following. The Mets are now 40-39 and just one game back of the Wild Card. Fans are dressing as purple blobs and chugging beers during rain delays. Even the Empire State Building has gone purple.
But all of that may have just been a preamble for Friday night, when Mets shortstop Jose Iglesias came back out on the field after another 7-2 victory over the Houston Astros to showoff his side hustle as a latin music star.
Iglesias, still in uniform, performed his single “OMG” and it didn’t take long before the rest of his teammates ran back out on the field to join the party.
Absolute scenes for a baseball game in late June.

Teams that were declared dead at the end of May are not supposed to have this kind of fun. Then again, there really are no teams in baseball like the Mets.
