Washington extends rare dual-sport offer to 2027 prospect

The Washington Huskies offered a rising sophomore to play both football and basketball for the first time in four years.

The Washington Huskies haven’t given out an offer for someone to play multiple sports in four years.

The last time someone was offered scholarships in football and basketball from Washington’s respective coaches was in 2021 when coach Mike Hopkins extended an offer to the top prospect in the state of Washington and a top 5 recruit in the country, Ohio State edge rusher J.T. Tuimoloau.

Tight end Austin Sefarian-Jenkins was the last person to play on both teams, acting as a reserve for coach Lorenzo Romar. That could change if Caden Jones ends up choosing Washington.

On Wednesday, football coach Jedd Fisch and basketball coach Danny Sprinkle agreed to extend joint scholarship offers to the 2027 prospect from Crean Lutheran High School in Irvine, California. The 6-foot-2, 165-pound prospect is listed as an athlete by 247Sports but is expected to be one of the nation’s top quarterback prospects in a few years.

Jones also stars on his high school’s basketball team and while playing quarterback and point guard at the college level seems like a nearly impossible task, college coaches are already looking for a leg up in his recruitment.

The rising sophomore already holds 29 scholarship offers, including some from the nation’s top programs, including Georgia, LSU, Michigan, and Ohio State and is sure to pick up more across both sports over the next few seasons.
