The U.S. men’s national team gets its Copa América journey underway with a match against Bolivia on Sunday.
Nothing less than three points will do for the USMNT and head coach Gregg Berhalter, who is under pressure to at least get his side out of a group that also contains Panama and Uruguay.
The pressure ramped up on Berhalter after a 5-1 defeat to Colombia in a pre-Copa friendly, but the U.S. responded with a credible 1-1 draw against Brazil in its final tune-up before the main event.

The USMNT’s opener against Bolivia will be seen as a must-win mainly due to the quality of its opponent. La Verde is generally considered the weakest South American team, with just six players on its roster playing professionally outside of the Bolivian league.
The USMNT and Bolivia have played just twice since 1999, with the U.S. winning both matches: a 4-0 win in 2016 and a 2-0 victory in 2018.
