JJ Redick, the all-time leading scorer in the history of Duke men’s basketball, agreed to become the Los Angeles Lakers head coach on Thursday.
Redick retired from the NBA in 2021 after 15 seasons in the league, and he still holds school records for single-season scoring average, career 3-pointers made, and free-throw percentage. He’s spent the last few years as an analyst for ESPN and a popular podcast host since he left the league. Despite his lack of coaching experience, however, he’s been linked to this Lakers job for the entire coaching cycle.
