Los Angeles area edge rusher recruit Chinedu Onyeagoro announced on Wednesday morning that he will no longer take a trip to Washington over the weekend, two days before his official visit alongside 13 other recruits was scheduled.
Onyeagoro has received multiple crystal ball predictions to commit to coach Rhett Lashlee and SMU from multiple industry experts and is scheduled to announce his commitment on July 1.
Ranked as the nation’s No. 238 overall prospect out of King Drew Medical Magnet, Onyeagoro was set to be the second-highest-rated recruit on Friday’s visit slate according to 247Sports. Linebacker Zaydrius Rainey-Sale, the top prospect in the state of Washington, holds the top spot.
Washington did pick up a commitment from edge rusher Devin Hyde, marking the first defensive commitment for the Huskies in the 2025 class. Nine of the 12 visitors remaining on Friday’s list are defensive players as well.
Onyeagoro has taken visits to Northwestern in May and SMU earlier this month. The Mustangs also only have one edge rusher committed in 2025 – Snellville, Georgia, three-star recruit Jalen Shivers.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pound pass rusher had 21 sacks as a junior for King Drew last season, leading the entire state of California. His top four schools announced last Friday included Washington and SMU alongside UCLA and Florida.
