Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans know all too well that Lavonte David has been one of the most underrated players in the NFL for his entire legendary career, but where does he rank among the league’s best players at his position heading into the 2024 season?
Pro Football Focus recently ranked the top linebackers in the league, and David took the No. 6 spot on their list.
Here’s what PFF’s Gordon MacGuinness had to say about David’s ranking:
David, 34, is coming off his lowest season-long PFF coverage grade since 2015. That being said, his 68.6 mark still ranked inside the top 25 at the position, and we only have to go back to 2022 to find him inside the top five, with his 88.0 PFF coverage grade placing second among linebackers.
Even at 33 years old last year, in his 12th NFL season, David was clearly one of the most dominant linebackers in the entire league. His combination of mental and physical skills make him a big-play machine against both the run and pass, and he’s still a threat to get after the passer as an extra rusher.
As he heads into his 13th year in the league, it won’t be surprising if David once again proves that he’s one of the league’s ageless wonders with another impressive campaign.
