It has been over a year since former Auburn gynmast [autotag]Suni Lee[/autotag] has competed in an all-around competition.
Despite the setback that ended her Auburn career earlier than anticipated, Lee appeared to be in usual form during Friday’s competition at the US Gymnastics Championships at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
Lee finished the all-around competition with a score of 55.570, which was fourth highest behind Kayla DiCello, Skye Blakely, and Simone Biles. Her strongest event of the night was beam, where she finished third in the event by scoring 14.2. She also finished top-five in bars with 14.3.
USA TODAY Sports’ Tom Schad describes Lee’s performance on beam.
Lee, the reigning Olympic all-around champion, barely put a foot wrong in the first half of her routine but had two wobbles in the latter half – only just hanging on at the end of the beam at the end of her aerial series. But a smooth dismount left her with a score of 14.200, which led the field at the end of the first rotation.
Lee will continue her push to land a bid to compete for Team USA at the Paris Olympics later this year on Sunday. Here’s a look at the best images from Lee’s performance at the US Gymnastics Championships on Friday.
