Laiatu Latu has selected his uniform number with the Indianapolis Colts. He will sport the #97 when his rookie season begins. During his time with the UCLA Bruins, Latu wore 15 and caused all sorts of havoc for opposing offenses.
Now, with Indianapolis, he looks to carry on a legacy of elite pass-rushing defenders. Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis were both multi-season Pro Bowl selections that led the Colts to Super Bowls. Freeney wore #93 while Mathis spent his entire Colts career wearing #98.
The Colts’ official 2024 schedule dropped on Wednesday night showcasing all 17 of the games this season. As the first defensive player drafted in the 2024 NFL Draft, Latu is expected to bring big things to the Indianapolis defense.
The official Colts X account put out a video of Latu making his selection:

Latu has been very impressive at the rookie minicamps. Assistant General Manager Ed Dobbs of the Indianapolis Colts had this to say about his prized rookie:
“He’s one of those guys – like what I first started talking about, throughout the whole process the whole room was kind of like, ‘This is one of the best players in the (NFL) Draft.’ We felt that way unified the whole way through.”
