NASCAR penalty report released for Darlington, L1 penalty in Xfinity

NASCAR has revealed its penalty report from Darlington Raceway, which includes a L1-level infraction in the Xfinity Series.

NASCAR released its penalty report after the weekend at Darlington Raceway, and several teams were dinged with infractions. Most notably, Sam Mayer and the No. 1 team received the harshest penalty in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Mayer was issued an L1-level penalty for violating Sections 14.3.1.4 A: Inspection Re-Certification in the NASCAR Rule Book.

The No. 1 team made a change to the car that would have necessitated it going through the recertification process. Mayer was docked 10 driver and 10 owner points, while crew chief Mardy Lindley was fined $10,000 and suspended for the Xfinity Series’ next race at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 25.

Meanwhile, NASCAR suspended Nick Sanchez’s tire carrier, Jerick Newsome, and Matt Crafton’s tire carrier, Marcus Horton, for violating Sections 14.3.1.2 A & B & D: Crew Protective Clothing/Equipment. Newsome and Horton will miss the NASCAR Truck Series race at North Wilkesboro Speedway this weekend.
