UCLA Bruins Men’s Volleyball head coach John Speraw recently stopped by to discuss with the Big Ten Network the run that the Bruins made to win a national title.
Speraw discusses how the season went and how the team struggled to start the season and maybe was falling short of expectations:
We didn’t have a great fall, and then we lost a couple players in key positions, so we needed to put some pieces together, get some young guys on the court, ended up not meeting, I think everyone’s expecations of how the season was going to go, and it wasn’t very smooth. So, I think for us to weather that period of time, to make sure we stayed together as a group, come and play our best volleyball at the end of the year is I think what it made it so special.
Speraw is a graduate of UCLA, and played middle blocker, winning two national titles as a player. He was named the head coach of the UCLA Men’s team in 2012 and won his first title with the Bruins in 2023. Before his time at UCLA< he won three titles at UC Irvine
