The Washington Huskies have found one more piece to add to their defensive line in Sacramento State transfer Deshawn Lynch. The 6-foot-5, 283-pound Lynch brings intriguing depth and athleticism to the position, where he could end up as a situational pass rusher to start his Washington career.
The Huskies need depth behind projected starters Sebastian Valdez and Jayvon Parker, where senior Jacob Bandes has been mainly utilized as a run stuffer, and the trio of Armon Parker, Bryce Butler, and Elinneus Davis have yet to see game action.
Although it came at a lower level, Lynch has shown that he can be productive up front, with 45 tackles to his name with 8.5 for loss, and 4.5 sacks along with a fumble recovery. His positional flexibility and athleticism should make for an interesting chess piece for defensive coordinator Steve Belichick to deploy.
With two years of eligibility remaining, Lynch also gives defensive line coach Jason Kaufusi a promising frame to work with. If he can find a way to continue his production as a pass rusher in the Big Ten on limited snaps, he could end up being a steal for Washington’s coaching staff.
