NASCAR started the tradition of racing on Easter Sunday in 2022, but it hasn’t been well received by those within the sport. The NASCAR Cup Series doesn’t have many weekends off during the season, and Easter used to be a traditional break for the sport. With the 2025 Cup Series schedule possibly coming out soon, NASCAR is reportedly making a change.
According to The Athletic’s Jordan Bianchi, NASCAR is not expected to race on Easter Sunday during the 2025 season. In 2022 and 2023, the Cup Series raced at Bristol Dirt before moving to Richmond Raceway this season. In fact, Richmond’s spring date has been labeled a leading candidate to be left off the calendar next year.
This decision would be met with excitement as several drivers didn’t enjoy racing on Easter Sunday. What happens to Richmond’s spring date is to be determined, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see it disappear for another race track. The part about Richmond is disappointing, but not racing on Easter Sunday would be positive for the team members.
