Washington’s Nelson ranked among nation’s best two-way players

In her final season with Washington, Brooke Nelson has been one of Washington’s most reliable players both in the circle and at the plate.

As the No. 10 Washington Huskies prepare for a run to the Women’s College World Series, coach Heather Tarr has an ace up her sleeve, and at the plate.

Graduate student Brooke Nelson, a product of Bonney Lake, Washington, has been among the Huskies’ best players this season and has been recognized by Softball America, which ranked her as the No. 5 two-way player in the country.

At the plate, Nelson has been among Washington’s best hitters, as her 1.147 OPS is the highest on the team, while her 11 home runs and 33 runs batted in rank No. 2 and No. 3 respectively. 7 of her 11 home runs came in a torrid stretch of 7 games in April as she has become one of the biggest threats at the plate in the Pac-12 this season.

In the circle, Nelson has been a reliable option that Tarr has mainly utilized in relief this season. She threw a no-hitter early in the year in a non-conference matchup with Loyola Chicago and has been a consistent arm in conference play, holding the team’s lowest ERA of 1.93.

As the Huskies gear up for the Pac-12 tournament and look to host an NCAA Regional, Nelson could prove to be a key factor down the stretch.
