UW Baseball loses 14-3 in series finale with Utah

The Washington Huskies dropped the game, and series, to the Utah Utes on Sunday afternoon.

After a thrilling victory on Saturday night, the Washington Huskies couldn’t take the series from the Utah Utes, falling 14-3 on Sunday afternoon. Coach Jason Kelly’s team was behind 5-0 by the end of the second inning and couldn’t recover.

Center fielder Kai Roberts starred for the Utes, going 4 for 6 with 4 runs batted in and 2 runs scored, while first baseman Drake Digorno went 3 for 5 with 3 RBIs and a run scored. The Huskies got solo home runs from shortstop Cam Clayton and center fielder Cooper Whitton, but couldn’t muster much else offensively.

Spencer Dessart took the loss for the Huskies, falling to 2-4 on the year, after allowing 4 hits and 3 runs (2 earned) over 1/3 of an inning. Colter McAnelly earned his third victory of the year, going 5 innings while allowing just 3 hits and 1 earned run.

With the loss, the Huskies fell to 13-19-1 overall and 6-12 in Pac-12 play, while the Utes improved to 26-12 on the year and 11-7 against conference opponents. The Huskies will take the field again on Tuesday afternoon at 4:05 for a matchup with Seattle University.
