For a second straight day, Kentucky Wildcats pitching couldn’t contain the Tennessee Volunteers bats. Christian Moore homered three times as the Cats dropped the game 13 – 11, and took their first SEC series loss of the year.
Moore’s first homerun gave the Vols a 2 – 0 lead, but Kentucky answered. Devin Burkes and Mitchell Daly each went deep as a part of a Wildcats run that had them up 6 – 2.
The sixth inning was the turning point. Tennessee scored five runs in the inning to re-take the lead. Kentucky went back up briefly, but Moore homered again in the seventh inning, and the Volunteers went up for good after that. Daly hit his second homerun of the game, and Ryan Nicholson hit one of his own in the ninth, but they were too far behind.
Daly and Nicholson had three hits apiece for Kentucky, and the team hit six bombs on the day. The pitching was touched up for 11 hits and 17 runs, though.
The Wildcats don’t play again until next weekend, when they’ll go on the road to play a three-game series against South Carolina. Game one is on Friday evening.
