The Kentucky Wildcats baseball team has had a terrific start to the 2024 season, and moved up to 16th in the latest top 25 rankings. On Friday, they began a series with the Alabama Crimson Tide, and started off with a win.
Kentucky scored first, but the Tide tied it up at one. In the fifth, however, the Cats put more runs on the board, courtesy of a two-run single by Devin Burkes. Then in the sixth, Nolan McCarthy bashed a two-run homerun to put the Wildcats up 6 – 1. They would win 6 – 2.
McCarthy’s homer was his only hit, but it was a big one. Mitchell Daly went 2-for-3 with an RBI as well. On the mound, Trey Pooser was terrific, going seven innings while surrendering just two runs. Travis Smith worked the final two innings gave up just one hit.
The Wildcats and Crimson Tide will continue the series with game two on Saturday. It can be seen at 2:00 PM ET on SEC Network+.
