Richmond labeled the ‘leading candidate’ to lose a NASCAR date in 2025

Richmond Raceway has been labeled the “leading candidate” to lose a NASCAR Cup Series date for the 2025 season.

Richmond Raceway finished its first of two NASCAR weekends during the 2024 season on Sunday night, and there is much to takeaway. The track has been in the news all week, ranging from Denny Hamlin’s jumped restart to the racing conditions at night. However, one report suggests that Richmond could lose one of its dates sooner rather than later.

According to The Athletic’s Jordan Bianchi, industry sources label Richmond as the “leading candidate” to lose a NASCAR weekend in 2025. This wouldn’t be a shocking development, as several tracks have decreased from two dates to one. Richmond would join a long list alongside Michigan International Speedway, Pocono Raceway, and Texas Motor Speedway.

Specifically, Richmond’s spring date would be the weekend on the chopping block. Michigan, Pocono, and Texas have benefited from NASCAR only going to the track once per year. It would be a shame for those who love the venue, but it could have a positive impact. Nothing is official, but Richmond is one track to keep an eye on moving forward.
