Kentucky baseball opens Ole Miss series with win

Kentucky gets a series opening win against Ole Miss

It was a good Friday night on the diamond for the Kentucky Wildcats. The Cats softball team got a big SEC win over a ranked Alabama team, earning their first conference win. Then, in the nightcap, Kentucky baseball got a 5 – 3 victory over the Ole Miss Rebels.

Kentucky opened the scoring in the third on an errant throw that allowed Grant Smith to cross the plate. The Rebels quickly tied it, but the Wildcats broke it open in the sixth with three runs on a wild pitch, an error, and a passed ball. Ole Miss would keep it close, but an Emilien Pitre homerun would close things out.

Pitre’s homer was the Wildcats biggest hit, and Kentucky only had five of them. Errors and wild pitches sunk the Rebels. On the mound for the Wildcats was Trey Pooser, who allowed just two earned runs in 5.2 innings.

The two teams meet again on Saturday, at 2:30 PM ET. The game is on SEC Network+.
