Washington softball hits 3 home runs to back Lopez’s strong start

The Washington Huskies cruised past the Oregon State Beavers 7-1 on Friday night.

Coach Heather Tarr and the Washington Huskies love to start fast, and they did that yet again in Friday’s 7-1 win over the Oregon State Beavers.

Thursday’s hero Kinsey Fiedler opened the scoring with a three-run home run, followed by a two-run shot off the bat of Brooke Nelson to push across five runs in the first inning.

The Huskies have made big first innings a common theme over the last two weeks, and after pushing across five runs on Friday, it brings them to a total of 16 runs scored in the opening frame over the past two weeks.

Catcher Sydney Stewart hit a solo home run in the fourth inning for Washington’s third home run of the day, and designated player Olivia Johnson added an RBI groundout to give pitcher Lindsay Lopez all the support she needed and then some.

Lopez was excellent in the circle on Saturday, allowing just 1 earned run on 4 hits while striking out 6 batters in her third complete game of the year to move her record to 8-1 this season.

With the win, the Huskies improved to 24-5 on the season and 8-3 in Pac-12 play, while the Beavers fell to 15-18 overall and 3-5 in conference play. The two teams will finish off their three game set on Saturday at 1:00.
