It’s been a rough start to SEC play for the Kentucky Wildcats softball team. They started the year by losing their first six games to conference foes. However, on Friday, against the Alabama Crimson Tide, they snapped the skid.
Alabama came into the three-game series ranked 13th in the country in the latest USA TODAY/NFCA Coaches Poll. The Wildcats sat outside the top 25, but did receive votes.
Kentucky fell behind 1 – 0 early, but quickly took a lead thanks to five walks and a passed ball in the second inning. The Cats scored three more runs in the fifth inning, two of which came on a Taylor Ebbs pinch-hit two-run single.
Ebbs had the games biggest hit, but Grace Lorsung and Rylea Smith also had an RBI apiece. On the mound, Stephanie Schoonover was solid, pitching all seven innings and striking out nine.
Kentucky and Alabama play game two of the series on Saturday, at 6:30 PM. The game will be on SEC Network+.
