North Carolina’s season came to a disappointing end on Thursday night in the Sweet 16, falling to No. 4 seed Alabama.
It was a tough loss for the Tar Heels as they struggled from the field in the second half, shooting 25% in the final 20 minutes. After holding an eight-point lead at halftime, UNC couldn’t build the lead despite having a three-point lead late. At the center of those struggles was RJ Davis.
The ACC’s Player of the Year went 4-for-20 from the field including 0-for-9 from the 3-point line to score 16 points. Davis’ struggles were evident early when he missed some open 3-pointers. Throughout the year, Davis has turned it on in the second half when UNC needed it the most. That didn’t happen on Thursday.
And for the first time all year, he didn’t hit a 3-pointer:
That was the only game this season RJ Davis did not make a 3-pt FG.
North Carolina lost by 2.

Davis is a sharpshooter from the 3-point line, setting an UNC record for most made 3s in a season, surpassing Justin Jackson.
Now, the loss isn’t on Davis alone. UNC didn’t make enough plays at the end to win this game. It shot poorly as a team, and Alabama took advantage.
It’s just a shame that his worst game of the year happened to come in what was the biggest game of the year to date.
