This year has been brutal for the San Antonio Spurs. The addition of Victor Wembanyama this past offseason marked a new era for the Spurs, but they are still an extremely young team. With guys like Wembanyama, Devin Vassell, and Jeremy Sochan leading the way, the core in San Antonio is all under 25 years old.
As is the case with most young teams, the Spurs have struggled. They have been the worst team in the Western Conference for the entire season. However, as the season has gone on, the Spurs have slowly improved their level of play. Marked by a recent Wembanyama-less win over the Phoenix Suns, they’ve continued to play as hard as they can.
Sochan recently spoke about the Spurs’ mindset throughout the tough year. (H/t Tom Osborn of the San Antonio Express-News)
“It’s been a tough season,” Sochan said. “No one likes this. We all came from the top colleges in the nation where we had been winning. So going into situations like this, it’s never going to be easy. We are not trying to be in this situation. But at the end of the day, we are hungry, we are working hard.”
The Spurs may be at the bottom of the conference, but they aren’t going to stop fighting.
