[autotag]Ty Gibbs[/autotag] entered the NASCAR Cup Series race at Circuit of the Americas with an excellent long-run car from practice and a front-row start. Gibbs looked like a driver who could win their first career Cup Series event. Unfortunately for him, the No. 54 car never had the track position to stay in front of William Byron and the speed to catch him.
Following his third-place finish at COTA, Gibbs discussed what held him back from winning his first career Cup Series event. What did the No. 54 car struggle with throughout the day?
“Yeah, we were just a little too loose in the right-handed corner,” Gibbs said. “I just wish we were a little tighter, but we did a really good job today. My team did a great job. All props to them.”
Gibbs’ car was good, and it showed in the final run when he passed Alex Bowman and tried chasing down Byron. Eventually, Christopher Bell passed the No. 54 car, but it shows just how close he is to winning. Gibbs has shown speed all year and currently sits second in the point standings. A win is coming soon, and no one will be shocked when Gibbs finds victory lane.
