Steelers 2024 dead cap update after Kenny Pickett, Diontae Johnson trades

Here’s a look at the dead money charges on the Steelers books.

With their trade of quarterback Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles, the Pittsburgh Steelers currently have $24,381,070 (9.46% of cap) in dead money on the books.

Pickett carried a $3,705,602 dead cap charge, but Diontae Johnson‘s was the highest at $5,833,334.

Dead money is a charge on an NFL team’s salary cap for a player who is no longer on their roster. It represents any remaining signing bonus proration that was not accounted for prior to the player’s release or trade.

The dead money charge left on the Denver Broncos’ books for new Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson is a historic $49.6 million — twice the total for Pittsburgh’s 17 players.
