Kentucky softball swept in LSU series

Kentucky softball suffered a three game sweep at the hands of LSU over the weekend

The Kentucky Wildcat’s softball team started the season 14 – 4, including a win over a top five team in Washington. The good start was likely a confidence builder as they got set to take on third ranked LSU in a weekend series.

Unfortunately for the Wildcats, LSU showed why they were ranked third in the country, sweeping Kentucky in the series. Kentucky lost the three games by scores of 6 – 2, 4 – 3, and 8 – 2.

In game one, the Tigers jumped out to a 5 – 0 lead and never looked back. LSU’s Sydney Berzon remained perfect on the season, pitching a complete game. Kentucky’s Stephanie Schoonover struggled and didn’t make it out of the third inning.

Game two was a close one. Ally Hutchins homered in the third, and the two teams were tied in the sixth inning. In the seventh, though, Ali Newland drove in the game winning run for LSU.

The final game’s score wasn’t close, but it was 2 – 2 going into the sixth inning. LSU, however, scored six runs that inning to break it open. Karissa Hamilton homered for Kentucky, but they were too far behind, and the sweep was complete.

Kentucky plays Lipscomb in a mid-week game next, then competes at the John Cropp Classic over the weekend.
