Christian Wilkins’ time with the Miami Dolphins could come to an end this offseason.
Reports indicate that the Dolphins are unlikely to franchise tag Wilkins, meaning he would become an unrestricted free agent. ESPN recently released an article discussing NFL combine buzz ($$$), with Wilkins and the Dolphins’ situation one of the things they examined.
While Miami’s stance is that all options are on the table for defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, several league sources say he probably won’t be franchise-tagged. That would put a big-time tackle who had 63 tackles and nine sacks in 2023 on the market.
Houston is intriguing here. The Texans have ample cap space, a quarterback early on a rookie deal and a playoff roster. There would be several teams in the mix, though. The Browns are always good for a splash or two, for instance. Would they strengthen an already stout defense with the versatile DT?
Wilkins was once again a force for the Dolphins in 2023. While his total tackles were down a lot, he had a career-high 9 sacks, an impressive feat for a defensive tackle. He added ten tackles for loss and 23 QB hits, which is another career high.
Wilkins may have his best football ahead of him; we just don’t know whether that will be with the Dolphins.
