The outing against Grambling State might have been exactly what the doctor ordered.
Arkansas won its series opener against Murray State yesterday with a score of 5-1.
The overwhelming performance of this season’s pitching staff continued to be the story Friday, allowing just 2 hits and a run against the Racers. Murray State’s leadoff batter, Drew Vogel, homered on the second pitch. From then on, Arkansas dominated from the mound.
Hagen Smith was, again, spectacular, striking out 12 batters in 6 innings. True Freshman Gabe Gaeckle closed the last 1 2/3 innings and recorded 5 strikeouts.
Although it wasn’t the most glaring aspect of the game, the Razorbacks did well from the plate. This team does its best when it hits and scores in bunches. They scored 3 runs in the 2nd inning and 2 in the 8th.
However, the best stat for Arkansas’ hitters was leaving just 6 batters stranded on bases, and only 3 in non-scoring innings. The Hogs have struggled with leaving opportunities on the field, so yesterday’s matchup looks like a step in the right direction.
The Diamond Hogs will take on Murray State again today for a chance to clinch the series. Here’s how you can watch/listen:
