Steelers not expected to use franchise tag in 2024

The Steelers are a franchise that tends to avoid using the franchise tag and this offseason is no different.

With the announcement of the salary cap number for the 2024 NFL season, this finalizes the numbers for players who will receive the franchise tag or transition tag.

Here is how the amounts break down via NFL reporter Tom Pelliserro.

The Steelers currently have 13 unrestricted free agents but none of them are worthy of the tag. The Steelers top free agents are quarterback Mason Rudolph, cornerback Levi Wallace and defensive tackle Montravius Adams.

With the huge adjustment to the salary cap, the Steelers find themselves out of the red and looking at around $3.6 million in cap space. The team still has several players who could be cut to free up more space as we approach free agency.
