Washington adds former UCLA tight end to coaching staff

The Washington Huskies hired another analyst with deep ties to the NFL on Tuesday morning.

Washington Huskies coach Jedd Fisch continues to add promising young analysts with deep ties to the coaching world to his staff. On Tuesday, The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman reported that Fisch hired former Purdue staffer Caleb Wilson, who played tight end for Fisch during their time together at UCLA as an offensive assistant.

During his time with the Bruins, Wilson accrued 114 receptions for 1,675 yards and 5 touchdowns before being selected in the 7th round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. Wilson acted as a graduated assistant with the Boilermakers, where he worked with the offensive line and tight ends.

Wilson’s father, Chris, was a 12th-round pick by the Chicago Bears in 1992 and has had an extensive coaching career including stops with Georgia, USC, Mississippi State, the Philadelphia Eagles, and Oklahoma. Chris was part of Philadelphia’s Super Bowl LII winning coaching staff, where he worked as the team’s defensive line coach.

Washington has already put together a promising coaching staff and has continued to add analysts with extensive connections off the field. Wilson should be expected to assume a similar role that he played at Purdue, as well as being an important part of Fisch’s recruiting staff.

Following tight end Josh Cuevas’ departure for Alabama, the Huskies have only three scholarship players at the position with a total of 7 catches for 71 yards and a touchdown between them, which all came from senior Quentin Moore.

Washington appears to be putting together a very impressive coaching staff under Fisch and Wilson looks like he could be another promising hire going forward.
