The Penn State Nittany Lions men’s basketball team gets set to host the Illinois Illini on Wednesday evening as the Big Ten schedule continues to grind on.
Penn State has struggled this season, putting together a 12-14 overall record so far while also posting a not-so-nice 6-9 mark in conference play. The Nittany Lions have lost three in a row but won three in a row before that; however, they have only been victorious in three of their last eight games.
Illinois is flying high, on the other hand, coming in at No. 12 in both the Coaches and AP polls thanks to a tidy 19-6 record overall and a 10-4 tally in the Big Ten. Having won five of their last six, the Illini also have a 6-4 mark away from Champaign this season, which makes things tougher on the home team.

The Illini have a clear path into the NCAA Tournament, sneaking in at No. 15 in the initial top 16 rankings. They cannot afford to lose a game to a struggling team like the Nittany Lions, but conference road matches are always a challenge.
