While new Michigan football defensive coordinator Wink Martindale has not been officially announced by the program, he is in Ann Arbor doing his job.
Wolverines fans are adopting a wait-and-see mode when it comes to coaches after multiple individuals either shared internally that they intended to stay in Ann Arbor or agreed to their respective job before opting to not come. The former Baltimore Ravens coordinator appears ready to take on the mantle of being the new leader of the defense for the maize and blue.
On Saturday, Martindale was spotted by Wolverines Wire’s Isaiah Hole at the Michigan-Michigan State basketball game. Though it was from far away, we received our first glimpse of him donning the Block M.

Martindale oversaw the Ravens defense that yielded former Michigan football defensive coordinators Mike Macdonald and Jesse Minter. The defense the Wolverines ran under both was similar to what Martindale ran, but not exact. It’s unclear if he’ll adapt his scheme to fit what’s already being run in Ann Arbor or if he’ll more adapt the existing scheme to fit his own mantra.
