WrestleMania 40 is coming up fast in less than two months, when it will take place at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. Fans have known the Showcase of the Immortals was headed for the City of Brotherly Love for quite some time, as WWE announced the venue for this year’s show all the way back in July 2022.
Meanwhile, we’re almost certainly less than 14 months away from WrestleMania 41 and still don’t know where it will be held.
Minneapolis media suggested that city was a finalist to host about 10 months ago, and as a result, it’s felt like the most likely destination for some time. However, another city with more recent WWE ties has crept into the location: Las Vegas, the site of the recent WrestleMania XL Kickoff event.
In fact, along with trying to take advantage of the media in town for the Super Bowl last weekend, a popular theory was that WWE would use that event to announce that WrestleMania 41 was headed to Sin City (and specifically Allegiant Stadium, where the Super Bowl was played). That didn’t happen.
So what gives? Mike Johnson of PWInsider answered that very question in his mailbag column today and suggested both cities are still possible sites.
The front runner had been Minneapolis but there’s been some rumblings of it possibly being in Las Vegas. With Endeavor now owning WWE, the old traditions and plans are out the window in favor of whatever they deem to be the best moves for the company.
It’s not out of the question that those “old traditions and plans” that could be changing include announcing the WrestleMania host city so far in advance. Endeavor might feel it can get more favorable terms or even be looking to package UFC in with WWE’s biggest event somehow.
That might be bad news for places like Nashville, which seemed confident that the pre-Endeavor WWE was going to grant it a WrestleMania as soon as its new football stadium was constructed. Regardless, it would be a surprise indeed if we make it to Philadelphia without knowing where WrestleMania 41 was headed, so expect an announcement from WWE soon.
