With just under a month to go in the regular season, every game becomes that much more important down the stretch for North Carolina. Not only are they battling for an Atlantic Coast Conference regular season title but they are also battling for seeding in the NCAA Tournament.
North Carolina once held a No. 1 seed but losses to Georgia Tech, Clemson and most recently Syracuse put a dent into those hopes. Now, going into the weekend where they will host Virginia Tech, the Tar Heels find themselves on the outside looking in for a No. 1 seed.
In the latest Bracket Matrix projections, the Tar Heels are a No. 2 seed averaging a 2.01 behind only Tennesse on that line. Right behind UNC are Marquette and Kansas.
Purdue, UConn and Houston are holding firm grabs on No. 1 seeds while Arizona moved into the last spot on that line.
I should note that these projections were updated on February 14th but not all of the 106 brackets were updated. It’s still likely UNC will be on a No. 2 seed line when the latest bulk of brackets are updated but they probably will be passed by Marquette.
Still, UNC will need to just take care of business in the games they have left and hope the dominoes fall in the right spot.
