Sherrone Moore has had his work cut out for him when it’s come to building his staff.
The first-year head coach had hoped to retain much of the defensive coaches and even appeared to have kept two of them, only to be lured away to the NFL by Jim Harbaugh after all. Defensive coordinator target Joe Cullen wanted to wait until after the Super Bowl to make a decision and some others appeared to be on the fence.
But once Wink Martindale joined the fold, it all started to fall into place on defense. And that includes more than one prodigal son.
Defensive backs will benefit from the return of Stephen Adegoke, and now the linebackers will also have a new face to them, but one familiar in Ann Arbor. Once the LB coach in 2020 and the early part of 2021, it appears that Brian Jean-Mary is coming back to Michigan football after his rumspringa with Tennessee.

Jean-Mary didn’t have the greatest year with the defensive talent he had at his disposal under Don Brown, but he inherits a much different linebacker room with an improved scheme. An avid recruiter, Jean-Mary should be pivotal for Moore on the trail.
