The Atlantic Coast Conference is making a change with their annual basketball tournaments each March.
On Wednesday, the conference announced that only the top 15 teams each year will make the annual postseason tournament. While the number is the same as this year and years past, next season the team will add three teams in Stanford, SMU, and Cal, bumping the total number to 18. Instead of making it 16, because they would have to add another day to the event, 15 appears to be the solid number moving forward for both the men’s and women’s tournament.
The men will also play a 20-game schedule while the women will play the 18-game schedule.
The ACC announced that only the top 15 teams will play in the ACC men's and women's basketball tournaments beginning in 2025. The men will continue to play a 20-game schedule and the women an 18-game schedule.

Each year, three teams will be left out of the event and essentially have their season eliminated.
While it may not feel like a huge change, it does add for some more drama towards the end of the year with teams fighting to stay out of the bottom three.
