Kentucky barely hanging on to top 25 ranking in AP Poll

Kentucky has dropped in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll again this week

The polls were not kind to the Kentucky Wildcats this week after they lost their fourth game in their last six tries. It was their third consecutive home loss, something which hadn’t happened since Rupp Arena opened.

After peaking at number six in the rankings, the Cats have been on a steady decline. A defense which wasn’t very good early in the season has continued to get worse in SEC play. The offense is, perhaps, the nation’s best, but against quality teams that can also score, the defense just isn’t good enough.

Last week, the Associated Press Poll had Kentucky at 17th, and this week they’ve dropped five spots to 22nd. They now find themselves in a precarious position as far as rankings go. With another tough week ahead, against Ole Miss and Auburn, falling completely out of the rankings in a danger.

Kentucky has gotten some wins this year against some very good teams, so it’s not impossible that they turn things around. However, they have to play defense better. As of now, they’re one of the worst defenses in the country, and if that continues, they won’t be in the top 25 next week.
