Shane Day, who spent one year with the Houston Texans this season, was the Los Angeles Chargers quarterbacks coach from 2021 to 2022.

Shane Day is going back to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Day, who served as a senior offensive assistant for the Houston Texans this past season, will return to Los Angeles as head coach Jim Harbaugh’s quarterbacks coach, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. Day coached Justin Herbert and the rest of the Chargers’ quarterbacks from 2021 to 2022 and served as the team’s passing game coordinator.

Day previously coached quarterbacks with Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans in San Francisco 49ers before he was fired by the Chargers after the 2022 season. He also coached with theChicago Bears, the Miami Dolphins and the Washington Commanders.

While not explicitly credited, Day likely played a role in the development of both quarterback C.J. Stroud as first-year Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik. Both Slowik and quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson were being pursued by various teams this offseason, but decided to return to Houston on new deals.

Day, meanwhile gets a promotion on a team he has experience with and working with a quarterback he helped mentored.
