On Saturday afternoon at Reed Arena during a 67-66 win for the Texas A&M men’s basketball team against Florida, one fan in attendance hit it big by nailing a half-court heave.
The reward for the shot was a cool grand, which is nothing to scoff at. However, for Aggies head coach Buzz Williams, the Texas A&M Athletics Department needed to do better, so he got involved himself.
“I knew something entertaining was going on,” Williams said postgame this weekend. “$1,000? That’s all we can give them? If she’s listening, come see me and I’ll match the gift from Texas A&M.”
Williams matched the prize, much to the delight of 21-year-old student Liz Twiss, who spoke to Carter Karels of 247Sports this week to recap the exciting event.
“I am incredibly grateful – not only for the gift,” Twiss told Carels. “It is really cool to see a man as faithful as Buzz working for the A&M basketball program. I look up to him. I am an aspiring coach, and I take my faith very seriously. I know that he does, too. That is something I want to implement in my coaching career. That is what matters. It is definitely not about the money.”
Good on you, Buzz, for making all of us in Aggieland very proud.
