The biggest question for the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason is how to improve the quarterback position. Mason Rudolph finished the season strong after replacing Kenny Pickett but is set to hit free agency. So what is next?
With the addition of offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, all options are on the table. The team has Pickett, who is the incumbent starter and a former first-round pick, as well as veteran Mitch Trubisky. But what about a different veteran who knows Smith’s offense well and has excelled in it?
Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill is a pending free agent. He had his best seasons with Smith as his offensive coordinator in Tennessee. In 2019, Smith’s first season as OC, Tannehill came to the Titans from the Dolphins and won Comeback Player of the Year. He was even better in 2020, but when Smith left in 2021, Tannehill’s production dropped after the Titans offensive line fell apart.
A reunion with Smith could be just what Tannehill and the Steelers need. Tannehill is a perfect fit for what Smith likes to do, and he would have a load of skill-position players around him. It would be a perfect bridge signing for Pickett.
