Penn State reportedly facing uphill battle in elite WR’s recruitment

Penn State facing stiff Big Ten competition for New Jersey wide receiver target in 2025.

It’s no surprise that Penn State fans have their eyes and ears open for any recruitments that involve the wide receiver position.

That was a hot topic all 2023-24 season as that unit was heavily criticized and didn’t look like groups the Nittany Lions have fielded in the past.

Recruiting that position at a high level will ensure Penn State doesn’t face those same issues again.

One player they would love to land is four-star [autotag]Quincy Porter[/autotag] from New Jersey.

He’s a 6’3″ 190-pound prospect who is ranked as the 32nd overall player in the class of 2024 and No. 5 player at his position according to On3’s Industry Ranking.

Porter is a highly coveted recruit who has been offered by over 30 schools across the country, including by high-level programs like Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, Texas, and others.

He’s taken 11 visits so far, including ones to Florida and Florida State this past January.

The last time he was on campus to see Penn State was January 2023 when he visited for Junior Day.

Sean Fitz of On3 thinks it will be an uphill battle for the Nittany Lions to secure a commitment from Porter as his recruitment has become national and he is expected to heavily take into account NIL packages that he’ll be offered (subscription required).

On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine currently has Penn State with the third-best odds to land him with an eight percent chance. That trails his in-state school Rutgers, which is in the lead, and Michigan, which he has visited twice.

Porter is weighing his options and has not made any cuts, suggesting that his recruitment is still wide open.

Penn State has some work to do if they want to land this elite wide receiver.
